Writing and recording a search engine marketing book.

I have worked in the computer industry for many years, I trained as a computer programmer and have done this job since leaving school. Over the years I have seen many changes in the computer industry, the biggest is probably the use of the internet. The company I worked for had moved from doing all their buying and selling over the telephone, to getting all the work from the internet. I designed their website and also got it to the top of a search engine using search engine optimisation. I felt people would be intrigued by the changes in attitudes towards the computer so I decided I should write a book. I wanted to show people just how the computer industry and attitudes towards the computer had changed in such a short period of time.

I started to write my book based on facts and also my own personal experiences. I started the book mentioning about when I first got to use a computer. This was in the mid 1980’s and I was involved in computer technology at school. The only computers then were the old BBC computers, where you had to put a command in to prompt an action on the computer. It wasn’t until Microsoft office was launched that computers really began to take off. This meant people could actually understand what was going on with a computer, and needed little in the way of training to use them.

It is unbelievable to think that when I was first training on computers, I was having to work in DOS, I also remember that in the staff office at school in 1987 that all the secretaries in there had type writers and electric type writers were the new ‘in thing’ at the time.

I progressed to talking about more recent events, and most importantly search engine marketing (Vision64.com Suchmaschinen-Marketing) and online marketing. Most of my book was about search engine marketing so I used this as a title to reflect this.

When my book was finished I was over the moon with the results. I had already got a publisher lined up, he suggested that he put it in paper back, but also advised that a good was to get things moving (with regards to sales), would be to record an audio book. This meant I had to record my book in a studio and this would then be put on a CD in the bookshop for people to buy.

I went into the studio and was unaware of the length of time it actually took to make a recording of a book. I had to return on 3 separate occasions to perfect the work.

When the audio book was finished it was put on general sale in a well known chain of book shops. I have had many sales both from the book and the audio book. My experience of writing and recording a search engine marketing audio book was definitely a worth while one.
